Air Force Junior ROTC Earns 15th Distinguished Unit Award

DUA

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. – Unit AL-961 at Southside High School has been selected as one of 387 units worldwide to receive the 2019-2020 Air Force JROTC Distinguished Unit Award.  This award recognizes Air Force JROTC units that have performed well above and beyond normal expectations, and that have distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the Air Force JROTC citizen development mission for America.  Only 6 out of 16 units in Alabama earned this honor.

This marks the 15th time in the 23-year history of this unit that cadets have achieved this distinction.  Despite the COVID-19-shortened school year, cadets still managed to amass 184 Community Service Hours and participated in 13 Community Service Events.  In addition, 22 cadets logged over 30 hours of flight time as passengers aboard the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Flight Orientation Program.
