A Message From The Principal

Dear Stakeholders,

I am excited about the opportunity to serve as the Principal of Tipton-Durant Middle School. I am no stranger to the Tipton Community, as I served before in the capacity of an English/Language Arts Teacher. I am excited to return to the first school that I was assigned to upon coming to work in Dallas County in 2005. I am a native of Chilton County. I am a graduate of Verbena High School. I received a B.A. in English from the University of Montevallo in 2001,M .Ed in English/Language Arts from ASU 2007, M.Ed in Instructional Leadership from the University of Montevallo2015, Ed.S in Educational Leadership from NorthCentral University 2014, and a Ph.D in Christian Education from a theological institute in Montgomery Al in 2018.  I am married with two beautiful daughters, JaMya and Jaiden. JaMya attends the Alabama School of Math and Science and Jaiden attends Valley Grande Elementary.

I am blessed to serve as leader of this great institution.  We are undergoing a transformation that will positively impact our learning organization. Our organization has faced several challenges, but we can overcome these setbacks by focusing on the needs of our students, teachers, parents, and community. Our focus for this year is to change the culture, minimize truancy, maximize student learning,  and increase parental engagement. If our students can be successful, then we can have a successful community.

It is with excitement that this school year has been planned with all of our student’s well-being and academic success in mind. This year will be a year where we will focus heavily on instruction and student learning. We are targeting instructional practices through in-house professional development opportunities that align with strategic teaching strategies. I am hopeful that this initiative will increase student proficiency in the areas of reading and math. We have made changes to our scheduling to include Enrichment and Intervention classes that will target student deficiencies. We hope that our children will become actively engaged in the learning process and enjoy learning in student-centered classrooms. With our solid focus, we are sure to see a difference in student achievement. We are focused on educating the whole child; Intellectually, soCially, and Emotionally. Tipton is on ICE!

Educationally Yours,

Dr. Victoria Calhoun

Principal/Instructional Leader
