A healthy school environment goes beyond the school meals served in the cafeteria. It means providing an environment that promotes a healthy lifestyle and healthy weight. A healthy school environment requires a combination of healthy food choices and an appropriate amount of physical activity.
All foods available on school campus should offer children nutritious choices, and physical activity should be incorporated into the school day as often as possible. The healthy, physical active child is more likely to be academically successful. We in the Dallas County Child Nutrition Program look forward to providing palatable meals for children in grades K-12.
Good health to you!
We can make a commitment to promote vegetables and fruits and whole grains on every part of every menu. We can make portion sizes smaller and emphasize quality over quantity. And we can help create a culture - imagine this - where our kids ask for healthy options instead of resisting them. Michelle Obama
