State Testing begins August 31, 2018-September 7, 2018. This is the 1st administration of the state mandatated accountability assessment. Parents please make sure students arrive to school on time to eat a healthy breakfast prior to testing. We are also asking parents to refrain from early/late check-ins/check-outs during this week, as there will be limited movement in the building.

Summer Reading Project Reading Fair

Bruce K. Craig has high expectations for students’ literacy development. All students are expected to be actively involved in their own reading plan. We want students to avoid the summer slide and continiously keep their mindsets focused on beginning the 2018-2019 school year with success in Reading as a one of their goals. Listed below are the Reading requirements for each grade level:

Student-Parent Conferences and Report Card Pick-Up is scheduled for 10/18/2018.. Parents can pick-up report cards from  9am-2pm.  Report Cards will be sent home with students Friday 10/19/2018 if not picked up by parents. 

Report card pickup day is a great way to assess your child’s academic performance with his or her teacher. Parents should use this time to:

  • Visit your child’s classroom(s).
  • Talk with your child’s teacher(s) about how he or she is doing in school.
  • Listen to your child discuss their academic performance 
  • Learn whether or not your child is on track in his or her grade level and discuss any academic interventions that can be put into place.

Jump Rope for Heart - American Heart Association Jump-a-Thon 12/8/2017 jump rope for heart

We are doing something really fun at our school: We've signed up for the American Heart Association's Jump Rope For Heart to learn how the heart works and how exercise can be fun - while asking friends and family for donations to save lives. Our students will be participating in a Jump-a-thon on December 8, 2017 starting at 9:00 am.

School-Wide Spelling Bee 1/12/2018 Spelling Bee

The school-wide spelling bee is scheduled on 1/12/2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. The top 2 winners will participate in the Dallas County Schools Countywide Spelling Bee  held on February 9, 2018 at the Selma Dallas County Public Library.

Are You Ready for Report Card Pick Up ? October 19-20, 2017. Report Card Pick-up

October is Parent Visitation Month Parent Visitation Month

October is Statewide Parent Visitation Month in Alabama. Bruce K. Craig Elementary is inviting parents and guardians to school to participate in this iniative. We ask that you visit the school for observations and conferences, eat lunch with our students, and volunteer in school related activities.

Open House Open House

You are cordially invited to Open House, Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 5:30 pm. Summer Reading Fair projects will be on display. Inow Parent Portal Registration will be available, PTO Sign-Up, Boy Scouts, Parental Involvement, Insurance Information, as well as, teachers for conferences. 

Solar Eclipse Eclipse

Due to the Solar Eclipse taking place on Monday, August 21, 2017. It has been advised to treat this phenomenon like any other potentially dangerous weather event. Therefore,  we will not allow our students to go outside to view the solar eclipse. Precautions will be taken Monday due to safety and supervision concerns for students:

Little movement as possible, 
no outside activities for the school day, and blinds/curtains will be closed in all classrooms. Students will be advised of safety concerns, including dismissal of school buses. Teachers have scheduled in class activities on the Solar Eclipse.

If you choose to keep your child at home, he/she will be excused from school the entire day.

Bruce K. Craig Annual Title 1 Meeting September 6 Title 1 Meeting

Bruce K. Craig Elementary will host the Annual Title 1 Meeting on 9/06/2018. All parent's and guardians are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be held in school library beginning at 5:00. You will learn about the Title 1 Program, ways to help your child at home, and have an opprotunity to speak with your child's teacher. 

First Class Pre-K Drawing August 15 Pre K

Acceptance to the program is through a random selection process which will be conducted on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at 3:30 p.m. in the Bruce K. Craig Library, and will be open to the public. Families do not have to be present in order to receive a placement. 

The registered applicant must meet residency requirements and complete the essential documents set forth by the program.  The registered child must be 4 on or before September 1, 2017.  Children who are eligible for Kindergarten are ineligible to register.  Children will not be denied participation on the basis of income, sex, race, color, national origin, or disability

School Begins August 6, 2018 at 7:15 Welcome Back to School 2

It’s hard to believe the 2018-19 school year is upon us. We are looking forward to seeing fresh faces on August 6, 2018 @ 7:15 a.m. We hope you have had an enjoyable summer with family and friends.

This year we are asking students to bring their "Special Dudes" with them on the first day! This could be an older brother, uncle, cousin, father, grandfather, pastor, or family friend. Any male that has had a significant impact on that student's life.  

All students will report to the cafeteria for a brief meeting, and meet their new teachers. New students entering Dallas County Schools will report to the library for registration. Please do not forget that all summer projects for students in grades 3-5 are due August 13, 2018. 

Teacher Meet and Greet (August 1, 2018 @1:00 pm) Meet and Greet

All new and returning students, please come and meet your teacher before the big day. Parents and students are invited to visit classrooms anytime during the Meet and Greet event. This will be a great opportunity to volunteer time to help teachers prepare for the beginning of school. 

Teacher Meet & Greet is scheduled for August 1, 2018. Please stop by the school between the hours of 1:00pm-3:00pm to drop off school supplies, and greet teachers for the 2018-2019 school year. 

Pre-K Parent Orientation August 1, 2018 @ 1:30 Pre-K Parent Orientation

Pre-K orientation is scheduled for August 1, 2018 at 1:30 pm in the caferteria. This meeting is for all students enrolled in the 2018-2019  program. School begins August 6!!! Parents will need to bring students to school on the first day.

If you have a student who will be entering Dallas County Schools for the first time, or a transfer student to the district, the registration process begins July 23, 2017 from 8:30-2:00. Please see Mrs. Hardy or Mrs. Freine.

School T-Shirt Orders

Every year the school will hold a Field Trip T-Shirt sale.  These shirts are purchased in an effort to help the teacher keep the class together and safe while on off-campus trips.  Students are allowed to wear them for school programs, activities, and uniform usage.  Please fill out the order form sent home with students or located under the building forms tab on our site.  Shirts are on sale now until 9/14/2018.
